UCU Dean of Students Dies After Home Attack in Mukono
UCU Dean of Students Pamela Tumwebaze has died after being attacked at her home in Mukono on Tuesday night. She was taken to hospital but succumbed to her injuries. Authorities are investigating the incident.

The Director of Student Affairs at Uganda Christian University (UCU), Pamela Ruth Tumwebaze, has died after being attacked at her home in Mukono on Tuesday night.

Ms Tumwebaze was reportedly assaulted by unknown assailants at her residence.

Police are yet to issue a statement on the incident but reports from the Mukono-based university say the dean of students was taken to hospital but succumbed to her injuries in the early hours of Wednesday, February 11, 2026.

Earlier on Tuesday, Ms Tumwebaze had addressed students as the keynote speaker during a community worship service at Nkoyoyo Hall, focusing on building healthy relationships among students.

"Her life was brutally cut short by thugs who broke into her home last night and attacked her," the students alumni announced.

"Despite efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries this morning in hospital."

The university said in a statement that Ms Tumwebaze was the youngest dean of students, describing her as "a beacon of kindness, compassion, and strength, touching countless lives at UCU and beyond".

"Her warmth, empathy, and listening ear endeared her to many, and she will be deeply missed," the varsity said.

Ms Tumwebaze had been affiliated with UCU for over two decades, first joining as an undergraduate in 2000 and graduating in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education.

She served in multiple academic and administrative roles, including Tutorial Assistant, Administrative Assistant, Executive Assistant to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Affairs, Executive Officer to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Finance and Administration, and Head of the Honors College.

She had been serving as Director of Student Affairs for about three months and was also pursuing a Master of Arts in Strategic Communication.

She is survived by her husband, Alexander Matsiko, and two children.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack.
